Abstract.Wepresentthecatalogueofawide- eldCFHT/WHTspectroscopicsurveyofthelensingclusterCl0024+1654atz=0.395.Thiscataloguecontains618newspectra,ofwhich581haveidenti edredshifts.Addingredshiftsavailablefromtheliterature,the nalcataloguecontainsdatafor687objectswithredshiftsidenti edfor650ofthem.295galaxieshaveredshiftsintherange0.37<z<0.41,i.e.areclustermembersorlieintheimmediateneighbourhoodofthecluster.Theareacoveredbythesurveyis21×25arcmin2insize,correspondingto4×4.8h 2Mpc2attheclusterredshift.Thesurveyis45%completedowntoV=22overthewhole eldcovered;within3arcminoftheclustercentrethecompletenessexceeds80%atthesamemagnitude.Adetailedcompletenessanalysisispresented.Thecataloguegivesastrometricposition,redshift,VmagnitudeandV Icolour,aswellastheequivalentwidthsforanumberoflines.ApartfromtheclusterCl0024+1654itself,threeotherstructuresareidenti edinredshiftspace:agroupofgalaxiesatz=0.38,justinfrontofCl0024+1654andprobablyinteractingwithit,aclosepairofgroupsofgalaxiesatz～0.495andanoverdensityofgalaxiesatz～0.18withnoobviouscentre.Thespectroscopiccataloguewillbeusedtotracethethree-dimensionalstruc-tureoftheclusterCl0024+1654aswellasstudythephysicalpropertiesofthegalaxiesintheclusterandinitsenvironment.

Clustersofgalaxiesareincreasinglyviewednotassimpleisolatedandrelaxedsystemsbutasembeddedinandcon-nectedtothegenerallarge-scalestructureintheUniverse.Thisviewofclustersinalargercontexthasconsequencesfortheinterpretationofclustergalaxypopulations,clusterdynamicsandmassestimates.
