汉语中,象征意义和文化内涵完全重合的动物词汇并不多,多数只是词意部分重叠,但是也有一些动物词汇有完全不同或相反的意义。本文研究了英汉语中动物词汇差异,在译文中保留动物的形象还是放弃原文用另一种动物形象代替是翻译中必须考虑的主要问题之一, 并运用了直译和意译的翻译方法分析动物词汇的内涵意义和文化意义。

A Study on the Translation of Animal Words from Cross-Cultural

Abstract: people often use animals to express their feelings. And at the same time, each nation forms its own unique animal culture. A great amount of words, idioms, or expressions associated with animals come into English and Chinese. However, the number of animal words overlaps completely in symbol and cultural connotation in English and Chinese is small. Many animal words only overlap partially. There are also some animal words that have quite different or even opposite cultural meanings in English and Chinese. This thesis talks about the difference of animal word in English and Chinese, and one of the major problems that should be taken into consideration in translation is whether to keep the animal image or to give up the cultural connotation and replace it with another animal image. The essay also explains that the successful conveyance of cultural connotation of animal words is a key point to the success of a translation work.
