Personal conflict is inev itable in the w orkplace Tr y not to say that A or B irritates y ou. Instead, talk about the characteristics w hich y ou find hard, not the people. You might say:

"I find I get on w ith most people so it's not normally a problem. It's rather disappointing w hen people don't pull their w eight I suppose and this has happened. In that instance I spoke to the pe rson in priv ate, explained tha t they w ere letting the team dow n and asked them to make more of an effort. They did."

"Can you give me some idea of the salary you're expecting?"

is one of those job interv iew questions that can really get y ou tongue-tied.

What do y ou say? U sually, moments later, y ou realize y ou'v e accepted a salar y far low er than y ou w anted. A lthough y ou w ere prepared to negotiate y our salary, you panicked at the last minute and lost y our nerv e. A s y ou leave the interv iew room, your exciteme nt at getting the job is tainted. You can't help feeling under v alued, even a little duped. A sk for too much and y ou risk looking unrealistic, ov er confident, may be ev en greedy. A sk for too little and y ou risk underv aluing y ourself and y our contribution, and ultimately bei ng underpaid. F or many of us, salar y is one of the most important factors in taking a job, but it's often the hardest to deal w ith.

Ner v es got the better of her and w orried about sounding greedy, she suggested a low er amount. When she w as offered the job, t here w as the salar y she suggested, right at the start of the offer letter. She w asn't surprised but she w as disappointed. So how can you av oid this happening to y ou?

* Research is essential w hen it comes to suggesting a reaso nable salary. Take time to look though job adv ertisements for si milar positions. Research the WWW or po st a question in a forum or on Yahoo! A nsw ers

Research the C ompany too. A large C ompany, if asked, w ill probably hav e more scope to offer y ou a better benefits package tha n a smaller one

* Don't initiate salary discussions o r say any thing about pay during y our job interv iew unless asked

* If y ou're asked for a figure, suggest a range rathe r than an actual figure. This giv es room to negotiate if a firm job offe r is made during the job interv iew

* If y ou're offered the job and reach agreement on a salary, make sure the w ritten job offer states this amount clearly

* A nd w hen it comes to the actual salary negotiation here are 6 essential sala ry

* The most important thing to remember w hen discussing y our salary is that it is a negotiation. Like any form of bartering, the first figure y ou mention in the job interv iew probably w on't be the figure y ou agree on. But it's a place to start.
