* Be confident about w hat y ou're w orth. Recognise that y ou're bringing something unique to the C ompany, and that y ou're w orth the w age you're requesting. Ev en if you'v e only just finished school or college, y ou still hav e something unique to offer and it's important to bear that in mind as y ou think about salary negotiation.

* Remember also that it's not easy finding the right pe rson fo r a job. If y ou'v e impressed the interv iew ers enough to employ you, y ou hav e the upper hand and pay ing a little more to keep y ou isn't too big a deal. So ask for a slightly higher salary than y ou e xpect.

* If the job adv ertisement mentions a salary range, employ ers w ill be prepared to pay more for the right candidate. If y ou're a little uncomfortable asking fo r the top figure, choose o ne just abov e the mid-range. This giv es the impression that y ou are w orth a good

w age and is a great place to start.

A ssuming an adv ertised salary range of $30,000 to $42,000, y ou might say this:

"I'm expecting a salary in the region of $38,000, based on my know ledge and experience".

* Remember that salar y is not ever y thing. If the salar y is less than y ou hoped and the C ompany w on't or can't go any higher, ask about other benefits w hich are important to y ou like training courses, financial help w ith further study and so on.

While inte rning w ith a priv ate organization in Ecuador, I dev eloped a 15-page marketing plan composed in Spanish that recommended more effectiv e w ay s the company could promote its serv ices. I a lso trav eled abroad on tw o other occasions in w hich I researched the indigenous culture of the May an Indians in Todos Santos, Guatemala, and participate din a total language immersion program in C osta Rica. A s y ou can see from my academic, extracurricula r, and expe riential background, I hav e unconditionally committed my self to success as a marketing profe ssional.

My ideal job is one tha t incorpo rates both my education and practical w ork skills to be the best I can be. Namely combining my education in finance w ith my w orking know ledge of customer serv ice operations, entrepreneurial abilities, computer skills, and administ rativ e skills.
